Ride times

The following table show the most normal rides that are regularly ridden, and what their start times are through the different seasons.

Start times change so that it allows us to make the most of the sun radiation in winter to help keep warm, and so that we make the most of the significantly cooler mornings in the summer.

*Groups may be split to ability and experience and the intended ride distance and intensity at the starting point before a ride.

Weekend Rides

Weekend rides are the longer rides where we spend most time on the saddle (around 4hr average). Depending on the participants the rides range from 45km to 70km and over with different paces.

Morning Rides

These are rides in the city, typically 20-23 km at a fast pace, to be back before 0700. These rides are relatively safe due to the light traffic, but we will stay close for safety. Normally by prior arrangement, to gauge the interest and the start location. Let me know by email if you are interested and get you on the list (mobile tel required).
Note: preferred minimum is 3 riders. .

From October until March bike lights are required. No lights means no ride!!!

Evening Rides

The evening rides take a +/- 30km or 40km roundtrip through the steppe behind the the airport. ZK crossing on the levee is the assembly point. Tuesdays and Thursdays we start at 19:15. There are occasional evening rides during the “winter” season (starting 19:30 or later) but the same applies as for the morning rides.

From October until March/April bike lights are required! No lights means no ride!!!

Night Rides

The night rides are newly introduced in 2014. These will target to deliberately ride in darkness only. This means if you want to join, you will need proper lights than can last you for 2-3 hours minimum. This also means that riders will greatly benefit from having courses loaded onto their GPS for the ‘evening loop” and the extension Zen Pond – Horse Bath.

Winter night rides add yet another element to explore.  Introduced in the 2015-2016 winter a few brave souls went out in the steppe on shorter tracks and even following the frozen canals out and along the Ural.  Not for the faint of heart but well worth experiencing if you have the skills and equipment to join.

Bike lights required all year round

Women’s ride

This ride (women only) is by pre-arrangement only and usually takes place on Thursday mornings at around 8:30 (exact timing is determined through pre-arrangement). Departure is from New River Club tennis court and depending on the ability of the participants the length of the ride is decided.
