Weekend rides 19-20 May 2012

On Saturday we left with a mixed group, 11 in total, for a reverse Pete's Villa loop. First to Busstop, then Pete's Villa - still no cappuccino - and then with a strong headwind to Levee junction. not an eventful ride, but a good exercise for all of us. We decide to go home via Airport track and then home.

46 km still, a good run for the entire group.

On Sunday we split in 2 groups, Jorgen led a group (total 5) to Horsebath and Zenpond, and the other 4 went to Wetlands but we extended the loop going over the levee to the other side. We found a nice resort, the Infinity weekend retreat (see below), and turned back from there. Nice ride, with a good tailwind going back home, where we ended up skirting the Wetlands again. 70 km.

Almaly

Almaly - Victory day Ride, 9 May

Six riders turned up o Victory day for a ride. Almaly was chosen as the destination and off we went. with a slight tailwind and helped by the effect of a wrongly set odometer (we were doing 33 instead of 28 km/hr) we overshot the turnoff and ended up slightly north of Almaly. But the ride along the river back to Almaly was nice and challenging.

At the Almaly peninsula itself we cycled around, trying to circumvent the entire area, sometimes stopped by the water, sometimes by the bushes - a lot of cul de sacs there.....

we reached the lake but due to the high water level in the river this had grown considerably and we did not succeed in going around the lake - some areas were just too wet. see the photogallery.

We cycled back against a strong headwind, total 70 km but a rewarding experience.

1st May Long weekend

1st of May long weekend

With the long weekend there were 3 days available for riding, and this is what happened. Although a lot of people had taken leave over the period, there were still 10 bikers turning up on Sunday.

As the weather was fine with no wind, we decided to take our chances and ride to Peshnoy, via Levee. We managed to get back within 4 hours, having done 80 km.......

The next day was more windy so we decided to take it easy, and ride to Horse bath, then Zen pond and back to the levee, then via the Fishfarm and the school back home, just 40 km.

Tuesday 1 May was cold, wet and very windy and only 3 people turned up - we decided to do a quick run via the old airport road and over the bridge, but then one of us got a flat with no spare tube and we agreed to cancel the ride and wait for transport while having a coffee........

Weekend 21-22 April

Weekend 21-22 April

This weekend saw us riding in 3 different groups. On Saturday, 2 groups started at the Satellite dish, the A-group with Sicco went to the Wetlands and the B-group with Pieter did the Refinery loop. The turnout was a bit lower than expected, as some people had not been looking at the website with the changed starting times.......

The Wetlands were still very wet and again the group encountered some mud, but we will eventually find a way into and out of the Wetlands that does not involve mud.

The Refinery loop including a diversion to "Borat Village" and back over the Balykshi bridge and along the river, was a nice loop. With the weather being nice and sunny but not too hot and hardly any wind, this was ideal for biking.

On Sunday there was some rain but as it was only a fw drops we still decided to ride, albeit slightly less than initially planned. We went in one group to Levee Junction, and on to the Horse Bath and the Dry river run (although the river was actually very wet) , and via Mount Atyrau and the Great West loop, back to Dostyk.
